Nominate Your Favorite Reality TV Contestant for a Pain-Free, Anxiety-Free Smile Makeover

Nominate Your Favorite Reality TV Contestant for a Pain-Free, Anxiety-Free Smile Makeover

SEATTLE, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- "So much talent, such an awful smile."

It's a thought that has crossed the mind of many fans of television's most popular reality shows. Be they idols, chefs, survivors, apprentices, housewives or dancers, these days the airwaves are filled with talented, charismatic amateurs whose moments in the spotlight are clouded by missing or crooked teeth, gaps and a hesitance to express their joy with a radiant smile.

Would-be stars are not alone.

Tens of millions of Americans literally bite their lips to conceal the warmth and exuberance they feel within because they are embarrassed by their smiles - a cover up that modern dental techniques make completely unnecessary.

As part of next week's 2nd Annual Sedation Dentistry Safety Week, March 15th-19th, specially trained dentists throughout the country will be highlighting the availability of pain-free, anxiety free cosmetic dentistry using state-of-the-art techniques that put even the most fearful dental patients at perfect ease.

For all those whose smiles limit their "star appeal," Sedation Dentistry Safety Week has designated Wednesday, March 17th, the first annual "Reality Bites" makeover day. Effective today, fans can nominate their favorite reality television show contestants for a complete, pain-free, anxiety-free smile makeover.

Fans who would like to encourage their favorite reality show contestants to explore a sedation dentistry smile makeover can nominate their favorites by emailing the names of the contestants and which shows (and year) they appear on to smiles@realitybites.org.

Moreover, reality show contestants - both past and present - are invited to nominate themselves for a free, complete, anxiety-free makeover by sending an email with details of their show appearances and full contact information to stars@realitybites.org.

Judging for the 2010 Sedation Dentistry Safety Week "Reality Bites" makeover day will be based upon fan and star nominations, as well as a panel of satisfied celebrities and their favorite sedation dentists. Honorary celebrity chairman of the 2010 sedation safety week is three-time Olympian Gary Hall Jr., winner of 10 Olympic swimming medals for the United States and himself a satisfied, beaming sedation dentistry patient.

Each year, Sedation Dentistry Safety Week coincides with the switch to daylight savings time. For five consecutive days, more than 10,000 specially trained dentists and their staffs dedicate each day to a specific theme aimed at raising awareness of safe sedation dentistry and reinforcing their full commitment to their patients' well-being, satisfaction, comfort and most importantly, safety.

The 2010 national chairman of this annual event is Dr. Michael Silverman, one of the world's leading sedation dentistry educators and a co-founder of DOCS Education, official host of Sedation Dentistry Safety Week. Since its founding 10 years ago, DOCS Education members have provided more than 1.5 million adult dental patients safe treatments that adhere to or exceed standards recommended by the American Dental Association and approved by individual state dental boards.

"Every person who overcomes his or her hesitancy and makes the first call to a DOCS Education-trained dentist is a reality star in our opinion," says Dr. Silverman. "We hope our 'Reality Bites' makeover day will inspire reality television contestants to serve as role models for their adoring fans and show viewers just how easy and anxiety-free smile makeovers can be."

Fans wishing to nominate reality show contestants for a sedation dentistry smile makeover should send the contestants' names and shows (with years) to smiles@realitybites.org. Current or past reality show contestants who'd like to nominate themselves for a free sedation dentistry smile makeover should send an email with details of their show appearances and full contact information to stars@realitybites.org.

Results of the "Reality Bites" makeover day judging will be announced later in the year.
