Grupo Salinas and Fundacion Azteca Successfully Organize Second Annual 'Limpiemos Nuestro Mexico' Nationwide Anti-Litter Campaign

MEXICO CITY, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Salinas, a group of dynamic, fast-growing and technologically advanced companies founded by Mexican entrepreneur Ricardo B. Salinas, and its non-profit arm Fundacion Azteca, announce the successful completion of the second annual nationwide cleanup day as part of an ongoing environmental campaign known as "Limpiemos Nuestro Mexico."

The event was spearheaded by Grupo Salinas Founder and Chairman Ricardo B. Salinas, and also included participation from Mexico's Environmental Minister Juan Rafael Elvira, Mexico's Education Minister Alfonso Lujambio and Grupo Bimbo CEO Daniel Servitje.

The campaign includes a coordinated series of television spots and programs to increase awareness of the problem of littering and improper refuse handling in Mexico, as well as proposing practical solutions.

Over 2 million people throughout Mexico participated in the cleanup day held on March 21. The zones targeted for cleanup included urban areas, rivers, lakes, beaches, parks and national monuments. In all, a total of 8.5 million metric tons of garbage was collected.

"Hopefully we can collect more in our next campaign. However, the important thing is to seed the consciousness of civic participation and responsibility," said Mr. Salinas.
