For Children International, Vega's announcement marks the first time a celebrity in Puerto Rico will promote a real one-to-one connection through child sponsorship. Vega will support child sponsorship through his daily children's television show, adult television program, music concerts, magazine and website.

Vega and his ReMi Foundation have been committed to children's causes over his 30-year career, and share a common mission with Children International of assisting children living in extreme poverty by helping provide them with clothing, food and educational materials.

Vega's initial goal is to help 1,000 children this year by connecting them to an individual sponsor in the United States and Puerto Rico.

"By joining forces with Children International, I can help create an even more positive change in the lives of children around the world trapped by poverty. Children International will allow me to reach out and help the planet's most vulnerable population - our children," said Vega.

Children International's President and CEO Jim Cook said, "Children International is excited to partner with Mr. Vega. His support and passion for helping children is admirable and will make a difference for thousands of children living in crushing poverty."

The alliance signifies a major accomplishment for Children International's outreach into faith-based communities. The outreach seeks to connect congregations, churches and synagogue communities wishing to help children escape the trap of poverty without proselytizing. Vega is an entertainer that reaches both the religious and secular community with a value-based message of hope, love, faith and solidarity targeting children and families through fun activities.

Vega started the ReMi Foundation in 2006 to harness his well-respected multimedia personality to help 100,000 children living in extreme poverty in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Guatemala.
