Universal Music Publishing Group Signs Platinum Break-Through Artist Justin Bieber

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) today announced the signing of an exclusive world-wide publishing agreement with platinum break-through artist Justin Bieber. The publishing deal encompasses all of Bieber's catalogue, including his debut album My World (Island) and his upcoming album My World (Part II).

"Justin Bieber's incredible charisma, talent, and mass appeal is already clearly evident with the breakthrough success he is experiencing," said David Renzer, Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Publishing Group. "Under the skilled direction of his manager Scooter Braun, we are confident that Justin will continue on his path toward global superstardom."

"I'm excited for Justin to be with Universal Music Publishing Group as they look at him not only as an artist, but as a producer and a writer, and their belief in that is a long term vision," said Scooter Braun, manager for Justin Bieber. "They are partnering with us to grow a career in a promising young man. I'm excited for Justin as he continues on his creative path."

Bieber's debut album, My World, was released in November 2009 and has already gone Platinum in the U.S. My World has appeared in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart and has reached No. 1 on the Pop iTunes chart since its launch. The album has seven tracks - all of which have made an appearance on the Billboard Hot 100.

"One Time" was Bieber's first single released off My World. Co-written and co-produced by UMPG's Tricky Stewart, the song had success on radio airplay and helped propel Bieber's career as a teen star on the charts. "One Less Lonely Girl" (written by UMPG's Ezekiel Lewis and Balewa Muhammad) had 113,000 downloads in its first week and debuted in the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Fifteen-year-old Justin Bieber began his music career three years ago by posting videos of himself singing on YouTube. Bieber garnered over 10,000,000 online views based on word of mouth alone.

Bieber's next album, My World (Part II), will be released in March. The lead single, "Baby" (co-written and produced by Tricky Stewart) has already reached No. 1 on the Pop iTunes chart.
