Seven Green Globe Film Award Nominations Make Clint Eastwood's Day
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood, who will be 80 years young on May 31st, continues to excel amongst Hollywood's top filmmakers, receiving seven nominations for the March 23rd Green Globe Film Awards, whose Viewers' Choice Awards are selected through an online voting system. A fan favorite, who was voted "America's Favorite Movie Star" by new polls conducted by Harris Interactive, Clint is entering into the awards with Magnum Force.
Nominations for Clint Eastwood and "Invictus" include Best Picture, Best Director, a nomination for one of the Best 10 Actors of the Decade, three nominations in the category of "Best 10 Pictures of the Decade" including "Letters from Iwo Jima," "Million Dollar Baby" and "Mystic River," and finally a nomination for the category of "Best 10 Filmmakers of the Decade."
The online voting site for the Green Globe Film Awards at www.movie-voters.com allows 100 Viewer's Choice Awards to be selected by film lovers, critics and movie viewers from around the world. Awards will be presented to leading major motion picture, environmental, humanitarian, animated and international filmmakers, movies and actors. The Grand Sponsor of the event, the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, will be hosting the Green Globe Film Awards and Emperor's Dreams Dinner Gala on March 23, 2010 in the California Ballroom with a sit-down dinner banquet and surprise performances by Hollywood's and Asia's top entertainers. The Bonaventure is the largest hotel in Los Angeles and is a location featured in Clint Eastwood's 1993 movie "In the Line of Fire".
A highlight of the Green Globe Film Awards will be a celebrity tribute to the late award-winning Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa on the 100th anniversary of his birth. Kurosawa had a tremendous impact on such directors as Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas and Martin Scorsese. Clint Eastwood has attributed Akira Kurosawa to making him what he is today as Clint's breakthrough performance came with "A Fistful of Dollars," a Sergio Leone remake of the Akira Kurosawa classic "Yojimbo."
