Redbox Surpasses One Million iPhone(R) App Downloads

Free iPhone Application Delivers Added Convenience for Movie Lovers On-the-Go

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Redbox, the fully automated DVD rental kiosk featuring new release DVDs, this week surpassed one million iPhone application downloads. The milestone occurred less than four months after the free iPhone app from redbox launched on the iPhone App Store in November 2009. The iPhone app from redbox gives iPhone users the power to find the nearest location, search for a title, and reserve a movie at any kiosk nationwide from the convenience of their iPhone.

"From road warriors to moms on the run, the iPhone app from redbox helps our customers rent and reserve at any of our thousands of neighborhood locations nationwide," said Gary Cohen, senior vice president, marketing and customer experience, redbox. "Now, movie lovers can enjoy the convenience of redbox at the kiosk, online and via their iPhone."

The iPhone app from redbox also makes returning easier as consumers can quickly locate the nearest redbox location and save for future use. In 2009, redbox opened approximately one kiosk per hour, 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the company currently has more than 20,000 locations nationwide. And with new kiosks being installed every month, the nearest redbox location may be closer than many consumers think. The iPhone app from redbox provides consumers with real-time access to location and inventory information.

"My husband and I use the iPhone app from redbox all the time - we even used it on a date the other night!" said Heather Leister, The iPhone Mom. "We had a movie that needed to be returned while we were out and we were able to find a kiosk nearby thanks to the redbox app."

Each fully automated redbox kiosk holds 630 DVDs, representing up to 200 of the newest movie releases. Consumers simply use a touch screen to select their favorite movies, swipe a valid credit or debit card and go. Consumers have the flexibility to keep the DVD for as long as they like. They are charged a low fee for each night they keep the movie and can return it to any redbox location nationwide.

The iPhone app from redbox is available for free on the iPhone App Store at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/redbox/id339532909?uo=2&mt=8&uo=2.
