Burnham's COMEDY CENTRAL Records self-titled album rocketed to #1 on the Billboard Comedy Chart (Billboard Chart date week of 02/07/10) after hitting #2 in COMEDY CENTRAL's "Stand-Up Showdown." Three years ago, Burnham was just another high-school student recording YouTube videos for fun. Today, Burnham has burst on the comedy scene with a full-length LP, a COMEDY CENTRAL special and a deal to pen a film for Judd Apatow. Entertainment Weekly recently named Burnham one of the "12 Rising Stars of Comedy." At 18, the comedian became the youngest person to record a "COMEDY CENTRAL Presents" stand-up special which premiered last year.
During the fall of his junior year in high school, Burnham started teaching himself how to play piano and guitar. Soon after, he wrote and composed autobiographical songs, such as "My Whole Family Thinks I'm Gay," as non-fictional jokes between him and his friends. In 2006, Burnham recorded two of his songs as videos and posted them on YouTube. Three years and fifteen videos later, his videos have been seen over 50 million times worldwide. The songs, recorded in Burnham's bedroom with a camera resting on a stack of books have been remixed, rated and reviewed thousands of times. In June 2008, Burnham signed a four-record deal with COMEDY CENTRAL Records and released his first digital-only EP "Bo Fo Sho" on iTunes.
With growing internet buzz, Burnham was invited to the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal in 2007 where he met Judd Apatow. Apatow flipped for the then 17-year-old and shortly after, Burnham signed a deal to write the script and songs for an "anti-high school musical" feature in which he would also star, with Apatow producing. Burnham has already started compiling film credits with roles in Apatow's "Funny People" and Rob Schneider's "Virgin on Bourbon Street."
COMEDY CENTRAL's Live Entertainment division commenced in 2003 and partnered with Live Nation Entertainment for their first tour together, "COMEDY CENTRAL LIVE Starring Lewis Black and Dave Attell" with special guest Mitch Hedberg. Since then, the successful live comedy partnership has produced tours for some of today's leading stand-up comedians such as Mike Birbiglia, Drew Carey, Dave Chappelle, Stephen Lynch, Demetri Martin, Carlos Mencia and Wanda Sykes. The network's latest tour, starring Gabriel Iglesias, kicked off in January 2010.
