But last Friday night, that's exactly what she did in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii.
As part of the brand new "The Maui Celebrity Series," producers for the new monthly concert series have seen a response of international proportions.
"We are amazed at the response this series has received. From media coverage in China to New Zealand, it's been incredible," says co-producer Arman Zajic. "From William Shatner, who was here for our first show last month, to Joan Rivers, we're rocking and rolling."
Roseanne performed to a sold-out audience last Friday at The Hard Rock Cafe in Lahaina, the venue where the series is currently being held. Each month a different superstar performs on Maui, which even the Governor has acknowledged is boosting interest in the island by the awarding of Commendations to all of the series producers last week. In her Commendation, Governor Linda Lingle acknowledges that by bringing names of this caliber to the Hawaii island, it's increasing interest in the entire state. "Maui doesn't really have a venue for top tier acts, so this is really incredible," says Zajic.
"Roseanne Barr, a four time Emmy Award winner, does not play 300 seats," says Zajic. "We make it a vacation for the celebrity, and we're in talks with everyone from Steve Martin to Pee-Wee Herman about trying to get them out here, and we're lining them up for Maui," says Zajic.
Joan Rivers is coming to Maui in May, her first ever concert on Maui.
"This is going to be a real thrill for the people of Maui, and it's a special thing," says Zajic.
The Maui Celebrity Series has become so popular on Maui, that producers are now considering bringing the series to a theatre.
"The idea here is to have the shows at a theatre, then the after-party at The Hard Rock so that folks can meet the stars, not just be pointed to an exit sign following the event," says Zajic.
The Maui Celebrity Series is sponsored by Hawaiian Airlines, Enterprise Rent A Car, Royal Lahaina Resort, KAOI Radio on Maui, and is presently a 501 (C) event via World Hunger Year, with a portion of the tickets sales aimed at the charity.
"At this point, we're trying to get these stars to support an island, and indeed a state, who has supported them, even during these tough economic times," says Zajic. "The celebrities appreciate this."
