The New York Virtuoso Singers Present Music for Choir and Saxophones with the Rascher Saxophone Quartet
Unique Program Also Features an American Premiere by Brazilian BMI Young Composer Award Recipient Rafael Nassif
NEW YORK, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York Virtuoso Singers (http://www.nyvirtuoso.org/) and the Rascher Saxophone Quartet, under the baton of conductor Harold Rosenbaum, will present Music for Choir and Saxophones, a rare and stunning program featuring works for voice and woodwinds as well as the American premiere of a Brazilian work for choir and trombones on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. in the St. Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church at 87th Street and West End Avenue in New York City. A free pre-concert talk with the conductor and the Quartet will begin at 2 p.m.
Acclaimed by critics both here and abroad, The Rascher Saxophone Quartet (Christine Rall, soprano; Elliot Riley, alto; Bruce Weinberger, tenor; Kenneth Coon, baritone) is an ensemble of virtuosi that has performed with the world's top orchestras, and has collaborated with numerous leading solo instrumentalists and vocalists.
The performance will also include the American premiere of Brazilian composer Rafael Nassif's Os olhos sao a luz do corpo for three choirs and three trombones. In 2009, Nassif (b. 1984) received the William Schuman Prize for the most outstanding work of the BMI Composer Awards.
"I chose the Rascher Saxophone Quartet for this program because they truly exude emotion through their instruments -- listening to them play is truly an experience," said New York Virtuoso Singers Conductor and Artistic Director Harold Rosenbaum, "and Rafael Nassif's piece, a daring contemporary work that channels the magnitude of the Sermon on the Mount through the composer's Brazilian heritage, is a perfect compliment to this program celebrating the interplay of instruments and the human voice."
The New York Virtuoso Singers, acclaimed by The New York Times as "New York's outstanding concert choir," present regular season concerts in the historic turn-of-the-century Saint Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church, 87th street off of West End Avenue in New York City's Upper West Side, where the group is chorus-in-residence.
