The Theatres Trust Appoints ECOVENUE Team

The Theatres Trust today announced the appointment of Tim Atkinson as Theatre Building Services Adviser and Clive Dixon as Finance & Monitoring Officer for ECOVENUE, its new three year programme to provide specialist theatre environmental advice and provide free Display Energy Certificate assessments for 48 small scale theatres in London.

Clive Dixon took up his appointment on the 30 November 2009 and Tim Atkinson will start on the 4 January 2010.

Tim Atkinson will lead on the delivery of ECOVENUE and carry out the Environmental Audits and DEC Assessments. Clive Dixon's role will be to ensure the project reports financially and environmentally against its targets.

1. ECOVENUE: ECOVENUE is a theatre-specific, environmental business support project for 48 theatre and performing arts venues across London. It aims to achieve quantifiable improvements in the environmental performance of London's theatres, renowned worldwide. Theatres will be provided with advice to develop Environmental Policies and achieve Display Energy Certificates (DECs). Savings made will help to deliver the Mayor of London's Green Theatre Plan, which aims to help theatres achieve reductions in carbon emissions by 60% from 1990 levels by 2025. ECOVENUE will be delivered by The Theatres Trust, the National Advisory Public Body for Theatres and will run until 2012.

2. European Regional Development Fund: London European Regional Development Fund 2007 to 2013: The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is used to tackle regional disparities across Europe. The ERDF supports regional development through actions such as business innovation and support and regeneration. Working on behalf of the Mayor of London, the European Programmes Management Unit (EPMU) at the London Development Agency (LDA) is responsible for the administration of the 2007 to 2013 ERDF programme.

3. The Theatres Trust: The Theatres Trust is the National Advisory Public Body for Theatres. The Trust aims to protect theatres on behalf of the nation. It advises in planning, regeneration and development, architecture and design, heritage, and theatre. It enables better planning to secure, improve and achieve sustainability for new and existing theatre buildings and to protect theatre use. Its aim is to ensure that current and future generations have access to good quality theatres that reflect our rich cultural heritage and offer inspiring new environments in which to enjoy theatre. http://www.theatrestrust.org.uk

4. Tim Atkinson: Following completion of a degree in Lighting Design at Rose Bruford College Tim worked in the West End and on the main central show, Ovo, at the Millennium Dome. Since July 2000 Tim has been a resident member of the Electrics staff at London's Shaftesbury Theatre, with responsibilities shared between building services maintenance, and the installation and operation of the lighting for the occupying shows, such as Peggy Sue Got Married, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and the multi award-winning Hairspray. There he developed his knowledge of both performance and in-house energy usage, and following the introduction of the Mayor of London's Green Theatre Plan, Tim trained as a Display Energy Certificate assessor, with the aim of specialising in certificating theatres.

5. Clive Dixon: As a Chartered Accountant with extensive charity finance experience Clive has worked for the Back-Up Trust, the Fairtrade Foundation and, most recently, Pesticide Action Network UK, a charity working to eliminate the dangers of toxic pesticides. He is passionate about threats to the environment posed by excessive and wasteful use of resources, especially fossil fuels. He was educated at Trinity College, Oxford where he studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics, and recently completed a BSc in Geosciences at the Open University.
