Russian American Kids Ballet's Nutcracker Showcases New Choreography and Multicultural Focus

Russian American Kids Ballet's Nutcracker Showcases New Choreography and Multicultural Focus

Dec. 12 performance, presented by Live Nation, kicks off eight NY metro area shows created for family audiences

NEW YORK, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Brighton Ballet Theater (BBT) and School of Russian American Ballet continue its Annual Holiday tradition with the announcement of The Nutcracker performances in Long Island, Brooklyn, and Queens from December 12th to 20th, 2009.

BBT celebrates the Holiday Season with eight special performances of The Nutcracker at a variety of concert venues throughout the New York City Metro area. BBT's original production features new choreography by Edouard Kouchnarev set to the timeless story of Hoffmann and Tchaikovsky's classic score with a cast of 80 dancers, performed by the advanced students of the School of Russian American Ballet and professional dancers of Brighton Ballet Company. Unlike other Nutcracker performances, the BBT's version departs from the usual winter fairy tale by focusing on New York's multicultural community.

Irina Roizin, President of BBT, says, "This production will portray the beautiful international diversity of New York with dances representing the countries of Spain, Nigeria, China, India, France and Russia. The ballet culminates in the Land of Freedom rather than the traditional Land of Sweets."

BBT will kick off the season on Saturday, December 12, with a performance presented by Live Nation, Inc. at the Capital One Bank Theatre at Westbury, NY.
