Unleash Your True 'Emoticons': Revision3 Launches INST MSGS

New Web Series Aims to Dramatize Social Media

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Revision3, the home of Internet Television including popular series Diggnation and Tekzilla today announced the launch of its new series INST MSGS, a 13-episode web series inspired by real conversations on the web. These snack-sized vignettes are plucked from IM conversations, Craigslist ads and other social media outlets. INST MSGS is a savvy web anthology series that dramatizes social media - with a vengeance!

Developed by Ann Le, Justin Simien, and Mathieu Young, the 13-episode season kicks off with "MY WOMEN," based on an actual Craigslist ad and a guide to translating Craigslist posts. Each week reveals another entertaining layer of the social media onion, adding a new dimension to IM chats, Tweets and even LOLCats.

Actors featured in season 1 include Dileep Rao ("Avatar"), Abigail Spencer ("Mad Men"), Josh Cooke ("Four Kings," "Committed") and Liam Sullivan of "Kelly" and "Shoes" fame (http://www.liamshow.com/).

The series was born when Simien was slacking off at work, milling through the highly entertaining, "Missed Connections" section on Craigslist. Inspired by their absurdity, and entertained by a steady stream of copy-and-pasted IM conversations between exes, it struck Simien that some of the most authentic - and primed for dramatization conversations - were all over the web. INST MSGS was born. Simien solicited saved IM's from friends and gathered up his favorite Craigslist ads. Ann Le, Justin's coworker in the same office, agreed that the content had potential and the rest is history - the team developed the show as a weekly interactive anthology series, and decided to shoot the plot around an actual Detroit Craigslist rant, MY WOMEN, and enlisted friend and accomplished photographer Mathieu Young to help shape the look of the show. Revision3's Ryan Vance explains, "'INST MSGS' is one of the most original and artistic shows we've launched at Revision3. It's a very unique take on the online world we all inhabit and I'm extremely excited about where this show is going to take us. Trust me, you're going to be surprised!"

After success at several short film festivals, the team secured distribution with Revision3. Simien, Le and Young formed KiddiePool productions, named after their favorite prop in the MY WOMEN pilot, to manage the production of the series. INST MSGS was shot on Canon's new 5DMKII, using lenses that range from Canon's top of the line L series to vintage Takumar primes.

The series debuts today, November 11, 2009 and subsequent episodes will appear every Friday thereafter. You may even think twice before pushing "send" in the future.
