Greater Cleveland Flute Society Presents Recital and Masterclass with Jan Vinci Sunday, Oct. 18

CLEVELAND, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The Greater Cleveland Flute Society (GCFS) presents its first recital and masterclass of the 2009-2010 season at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at The Cleveland Music School Settlement, 11125 Magnolia Drive, Cleveland, Ohio. This event features Dr. Jan Vinci, Senior Artist-in-Residence at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Vinci holds a D.M.A. from The Juilliard School, an M.M. from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a B.M. from Bowling Green State University. Her primary teachers include Julius Baker, Samuel Baron, Maurice Sharp, Judith Bentley and Martha Aarons. This program is made possible in part by a generous grant from The Brannen-Cooper Fund. The event is free for GCFS members. General admission tickets are available for $10.

Vinci's program includes "Fantasie" by George Hue, "Black Anemones" by Joseph Schwantner, "Theme and Variations on Nel Cor Piu" by Theobald Boehm, "Mei" by Kazuo Fukushima, "Sonata" by Robert Muczyinski, and "Lullaby for 2 flutes and piano" by Jennifer Higdon. She will be accompanied by Eric Charnofsky on piano and flutist Mary Kay Fink from the Cleveland Orchestra will make a special appearance, performing with Vinci on the Higdon Lullaby.

Auditions were held to select the participants for the masterclass. Four participants were selected to perform for Ms. Vinci. Ernesto Fernandez, 19, of Miami, Florida; Kaley Kleinman, 17, of South Euclid, Ohio; Peter Chirdon, 23, of Lakewood, Ohio; and Robin Meiksins, 17, of Shaker Heights, Ohio.

"Jan has put together an incredible program for our members and audience. We're excited for the individuals selected to participate in the masterclass who will have the opportunity to learn from such an accomplished artist."

Established in 1997, the Greater Cleveland Flute Society (GCFS) provides opportunities for flutists of all backgrounds to support and learn from one another and guest artists. GCFS programs include recitals, masterclasses and the annual Cleveland Composers concert. Its members include students, adults, teachers, amateur and professional flutists and corporate sponsors.
