Comcast Cable Viewer Helps Apprehend Maryland Most Wanted Suspect

Comcast Fugitive Files On Demand Helps Track Criminals and Make Communities Safer

BEL AIR, Md., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Maryland State Police recently arrested Sean Stephen Garrison, 37, after receiving information from a Comcast viewer who had seen the Maryland most wanted suspect on Fugitive Files On Demand. Comcast's Fugitive Files is a public service that gives digital cable customers the opportunity to view profiles of local criminals On Demand and submit anonymous tips to help police capture fugitives. The arrest of Garrison adds to a growing list of criminals nationwide that have been located through the help of Comcast viewers.

"As law enforcement officers, we are committed to protecting our citizens and working with them to keep our communities safe," said Colonel Terrence B. Sheridan, Superintendent of the Maryland State Police. "Comcast's video on demand technology provides us with an opportunity to disseminate information and enlist citizens' help in tracking down known criminals, like Garrison."

The Maryland State Police issued an arrest warrant for Garrison on the charges of robbery, second degree assault and motor vehicle theft after he allegedly assaulted a Harford County woman in her residence on September 7 and subsequently stole her car and purse. A Comcast viewer phoned in an anonymous tip on September 21 as to Garrison's location after seeing the suspect's profile on Fugitive Files On Demand. Garrison was immediately arrested when law enforcement responded to the address.

"Comcast continuously looks for ways to leverage its video on demand technology to make a positive impact in our local communities," said Noah Kodeck, director of On Demand programming and production for Comcast. "Our partnership with the Maryland State Police is just another example of how our signature programming is engaging our customers and helping make a difference."

The first public service program of its kind, Fugitive Files features regularly updated video profiles of some of Maryland's most wanted criminals, along with information on how those with knowledge about the persons in question can contact the police anonymously. Each criminal profiled on Fugitive Files has a warrant out for his/her arrest for violent crimes including murder, assault, rape and gang violence, among others. Comcast Digital Cable customers can view Fugitive Files at any time and at no additional cost by tuning to Channel 1 or pressing the On Demand button on their remote controls, then clicking on "Get Local," selecting "News & Information," then "MD Fugitive Files."

Fugitive Files On Demand is just one example of the wide variety of original, video on demand programming offered by Comcast. Comcast's signature On Demand service offers more than 10,000 titles each month, with the vast majority available at no additional cost for customers to watch when they want, with the ability to pause, fast-forward and rewind. With more than 13 billion views to date, Comcast's On Demand service features everything from movies, music and top TV shows to the most popular kids, sports, lifestyle and local programs. Comcast customers are currently selecting On Demand more than 300 million times every month.
