Summer Concerts Draw Nearly 25,000 to Great Park

Guests from across Southern California experienced 'Flights & Sounds of Summer' concert and dance series

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- There was just one venue in Orange County this summer where you could hear reggae, country, swing, blues, salsa and more from internationally-recognized artists, and nearly 25,000 people from across Southern California did just that -- some from 400 feet in the air.

This summer's Flights & Sounds of Summer dance and concert series at the Orange County Great Park brought diverse music and diverse crowds to experience music and cultures from all over the world. Attendance jumped almost 20% over last year's series, due in part to expanded entertainment, including the Comedy Corner.

"Our vision for the Great Park is for the programs to appeal to the entire Orange County community," said Larry Agran, Chair of the Orange County Great Park Board of Directors. "Week after week, I saw the audiences grow in number. More importantly, I was pleased to learn our visitors came to the Park from more cities and more diverse backgrounds than ever before."

Artists from Canada, Cuba, Iran, Latin America, Europe and across the U.S. dazzled audiences at the Saturday night concerts. At the Friday night dances, live entertainment was mixed with dance instruction to make each night an interactive music experience.

This summer also brought the debut of the Comedy Corner at Hangar 244, where local -- yet nationally-known -- stand-up comics entertained the visitors who were enjoying pre-show dining in the Hangar Cafe.

This is the second year the Great Park has teamed with the Irvine Barclay Theatre to produce a summer concert series. While the final concert of the series was held September 26, events at the Park continue in October, with the Movie on the Lawn October 10 and the Great Park Pumpkin Harvest October 24.
