San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom Talks About Immigration and Drugs on Azteca America's 'Issues: Caras y Voces'

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Azteca America television network is proud to feature San Francisco Mayor and State of California gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom on the Sept. 1 broadcast of "Issues: Caras y Voces," hosted by veteran Latino journalist Armando Guzman.

As a self-styled "social liberal and a fiscal watchdog," Mayor Newsom has implemented a plan for universal healthcare and San Francisco is probably the highest profile city in the country with an immigration sanctuary policy, even though over 100 cities in the country have similar policies. During Mayor Newsom's tenure, San Francisco also created a policy to provide ID cards for residents regardless of immigration status.

"...California needs to be front and center in that (immigration) debate. An estimated 2.9 million to 3 million undocumented are living in the State of California. Of the 11.9 or 12 million undocumented who are in America. So the fact is we need to show Leadership. . . and we haven't necessarily shown a lot of leadership in California," said Mayor Newsom.

"Issues: Caras y Voces" features top leaders that impact the Hispanic community through one-on-one interviews conducted by Armando Guzman. Covering the White House and the Capitol for almost two decades, Mr. Guzman is one of the most respected correspondents in Washington. The interview forum airs every Monday evening during Noticiero Azteca America, the network news broadcast of Azteca America.

"At Azteca America we are committed to furthering thoughtful debate on immigration and U.S.-Mexico relations," said Luis J. Echarte, Chairman of Azteca America Network and Fundacion Azteca America.

Past guests of "Issues: Caras y Voces" include: New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL), Congressman Xavier Becerra (D-CA), Senator Harry Reid (D-NV), former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, Congressman Jose E. Serrano (D-NY), Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), NIDA Director Nora Volkow, ACS President Elmer Huerta, Mexican Consul Enrique Escorza, California State Senator Gil Cedillo and former Senator George McGovern.

Don't miss "Issues: Caras y Voces" Tuesdays during the nighttime transmissions of Noticiero Azteca America at 11:00 pm EDT and PDT / 10:00 pm CDT.
