WHAT: The Hotel del Coronado reels back 50 years to celebrate the debut of the 1959 comedy classic, "Some Like It Hot." Directed by Billy Wilder and shot on location at The Del in 1958 and released the following year, the movie has since become a legend - voted the No. 1 comedy of all time by the American Film Institute. Media will have an exclusive opportunity to interview several people connected to the film including actor, author and artist Tony Curtis; Laurence Maslon, author of "Some Like It Hot - the Official 50th Anniversary Companion"; and some of the members of "Sweet Sue," the original girls in the band from the movie. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for "The Defiant Ones." Tony Curtis now enjoys a successful second career as a fine artist. He will be at The Del to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film and showcase his new book "The Making of Some Like It Hot." Some members from "Sweet Sue," the original girls in the band In the classic film, Marilyn Monroe's character "Sugar" is a ukulele-playing band member of "Sweet Sue and Her Society Syncopaters."
