'High Noon' legend honored at 11 a.m. event

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following advisory is being issued by the U.S. Postal Service:

Background: Leonard Maltin will emcee the event that includes a special film tribute to Gary Cooper. Cooper's daughter will speak about the iconic actor as a father and be available for interviews on his 20-year friendship with Ernest Hemingway. The two outdoorsmen often hunted and fished together. Hemingway had Cooper in mind when writing For Whom the Bell Tolls. Native American Sonya Oberly will highlight Cooper's contributions to Native Americans. Cooper's Oscar(R) for High Noon (1952) will be on display in addition to High Noon and Along Came Jones movie posters and a Norman Rockwell painting of Cooper that was commissioned for the Along Came Jones advertising campaign.
