Celebrate Music From Around the World With Johnny Polanco y su Conjunto Amistad and Niyaz at the Great Park This Weekend
IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Come to the Orange County Great Park Flights and Sounds of Summer dance and concert series this weekend and celebrate music from around the world with two distinct performances - Johnny Polanco y su Conjunto Amistad and Niyaz.
Start your weekend fun early at the Orange County Great Park Friday, September 11th, and cha, cha, cha to the music of Johnny Polanco y su Conjunto Amistad at 8:00 p.m. Don't know how to salsa dance? Get a free dance lesson at 7:30 p.m. So popular at the Great Park last summer, Johnny Polanco y su Conjunto Amistad was invited back for this year's Flights and Sounds of Summer dance and concert series. Johnny Polanco is our favorite salsero, with regular gigs at El Floridita, The Mayan and other iconic Southland venues.
Comedian Steve Farrell, a regular at the Improv, Ice House and the Comedy Store, and Kenny Kane, a veteran of USO tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and guest on the Bob and Tom Show, will open the evening at 7:00 p.m. with great laughs at the Great Park Comedy Corner.
The weekend fun continues Saturday, September 12th, when the Great Park is pleased to present world fusion and the music of Niyaz at 8:00 p.m. First, come see Dante, a Last Comic Standing finalist who will kick off the evening at 7:00 p.m. with great laughs at the Great Park Comedy Corner.
The band Niyaz is an Iranian musical trio whose debut album ranked #1 on world music charts on iTunes. Niyaz's music is ecstatic and delicious. Azam Ali, best known as half of the popular duo Vas, is the vocalist heard on the soundtrack of "The Matrix: Revolution." Loga Ramin Torkian, formerly of Axiom of Choice, is a master of Persian and Turkish musical traditions. Loga and Azam are accompanied by tabla, bass, violin and laptop.

Come back to the Great Park next Friday, September 18th and line dance to the Merchants of Moonshine. Comedian Chris Zapatier, BET's "SOB" and veteran of military tours to Iraq and Afghanistan, will open the evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Great Park Comedy Corner.
On Saturday, September 19th, the Great Park is pleased to present HAPA for an evening of Hawaiian bliss. Guests can enjoy HAPA, the musical sound of Maui. The Comedy Corner features Aristotle Athiras and David Marley who will kick off the evening at 7:00 p.m.
Evening events begin at 7:00 p.m. with shows by local stand-up comics at the Great Park Comedy Corner. Dances and concerts begin at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free. Parking is $8.00.
Refreshments will be available at the Hangar Cafe, which opens at 6:00 p.m. on performance nights. The Hangar Cafe features a vegetarian menu of fresh salads and sandwiches, delicious snacks and desserts, and beer, wine, and soft drinks presented by award-winning Avanti Cafe.
