FIRST SINGLE 'TAIL DRAGGER' HITS #1 IN LOS ANGELES, PHILADELPHIA, BOSTON, SAN FRANCISCO, PORTLAND AND OTHERS NATIONWIDE TOUR CONTINUES THROUGH NOVEMBER 'Thorogood is in tiptop shape as he covers great but forgotten pieces by Chess Records legends such as Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Diddley and Chuck Berry. The recording production work is pristine, demanding the volume be cranked. The Destroyer renditions make you thirsty for more George and another pitcher of beer.' Dan Aquilante, New York Post (7/28/09, four-star review)
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- As they continue their nationwide summer tour across the country, George Thorogood & The Destroyers' new album, The Dirty Dozen, has entered Billboard magazine's Blues Albums chart at #1. Released July 28 on Capitol/EMI, the album features six new studio tracks and six out-of-print songs from Thorogood's catalog. The album's first single, "Tail Dragger," has been heard by more than two million people and has reached #1 at 11 radio stations across the U.S., including Los Angeles' KLOS, WYSP in Philadelphia and WZLX in Boston.
"Yours truly is at a loss for words, for once," states the ebullient Thorogood. "We've been doing this for 30 years so great news like this throws me, but I'll take it!" The brash and iconic rocker -- who has sold close to 10 million records -- is on tour with The Destroyers, with dates confirmed into November.
Thorogood is no stranger to ruling Billboard's Blues Albums chart, as 2004's Greatest Hits: 30 Years Of Rock was the magazine's #1 Blues Album for both 2004 and 2005, and the band's 16th studio album, 2006's The Hard Stuff, hit #2 on Billboard's Blues chart.
Here's more critical praise:
"Music fads come and go, but after 30 years on the scene, George Thorogood's brand of blues-rock has stood the test of time. Thorogood and his Destroyers will offer fans a reminder of that staying power with. . .a new album, The Dirty Dozen." --Mark Sachs, LOS ANGELES TIMES, 7/10/09
"Many artists lose that proverbial 'fire' for making music over time. That's just the nature of the biz. However, that's not the case for George Thorogood - not at all. George is still 'Bad to the Bone.' He's not stopping anytime soon either. . .[The Dirty Dozen] is another raw rock record from a true legend." --Rick Florino, ARTISTDIRECT.COM, 7/26/09
"The six new tunes, called Side One, are all killer blues tunes culled from Thorogood's love of the genre. The best song on Side One is 'Tail Dragger' followed closely by 'Twenty Dollar Gig' and 'Run Myself Out of Town.' Side Two, as it is called, features fan favorites. . .'Howling For My Baby,' 'Six Days on the Road' and 'Hello Little Girl' are all given new life as they once again appear on CD. . .this CD sounds best played loud and often." --Jeb Wright, CLASSICROCKREVISITED.COM, July 2009
