ECO(TM) by Cosentino Selected to be the Official Countertop for the 2009 DIY Network Blog Cabin

ECO(TM) by Cosentino Selected to be the Official Countertop for the 2009 DIY Network Blog Cabin

NEW YORK, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- ECO(TM) by Cosentino (www.ecobycosentino.com), an innovative new line of eco-friendly surfacing material composed of 75% recycled material is proud to have been selected as the official countertop of the 2009 DIY Network Blog Cabin (www.diynetwork.com). Blog Cabin is the DIY network's popular interactive television series that invites the world to weigh in on key design elements of an incredible new home being built in the Preserve at Little Pine, an 1800 acre mountain community just north of Asheville, North Carolina. The series premieres on the DIY Network on Thursday, August 20 at 9 p.m. ET (DISH Network Ch. 111 and DirecTV Ch. 230.)

Blog Cabin is a groundbreaking multimedia experience based on a very simple idea: "You Design It, We Build It, You Could Win It!" This truly interactive series invited internet users to vote on the design features for a real log cabin, including the floor plan, roof, countertops, even the front door. Then DIY Network experts, led by Amy Matthews, built the cabin according to the specifications chosen by the viewers. Construction began in March and was completed in August. The entire process is documented in a 10-part TV series premiering tonight. In November, one lucky sweepstakes winner will be handed the keys to this fabulous vacation home.

ECO(TM) by Cosentino is featured in the Blog Cabin's two kitchens, and both the master and guest bathroom. The colors used are Terra, an earthy brown hue made from recycled glass, mirrors and industrial furnace residuals, and Starlight, a chic black with flecks of recycled mirror. By selecting ECO(TM) by Cosentino as the sole countertop and surfacing material in the Blog Cabin, viewers chose a revolutionary new green product that sets an unprecedented standard for the green building and kitchen and bath industry.

"We immediately knew we wanted to select ECO(TM) by Cosentino for the Blog Cabin. The Starlight countertop that we chose for the main kitchen reminded us of a beautiful star-filled night sky in the mountains because of the sparkle of the recycled mirror. The fact that the product utilizes recycled materials and is better for the environment is absolutely in line with our mission to protect the natural woodland and mountains of the Preserve at Little Pine," said Cam McLemore, Marketing Coordinator of The Preserve Communities.

ECO(TM) by Cosentino is composed of 75% post-industrial and post-consumer recycled raw material, including: mirrors salvaged from houses, building and factories; glass from windows and bottles; granulated glass from consumer recycling practices; porcelain from china, tiles, sinks, toilets and decorative elements; and industrial furnace residuals from factories in the form of crystallized ashes. The raw materials are bonded together with a proprietary eco-friendly corn oil based resin. The production of ECO(TM) by Cosentino will utilize the equivalent of 60,000,000 glass bottles every year.

"We are thrilled that ECO(TM) by Cosentino has been selected to be the official countertop in the 2009 DIY Network Blog Cabin. As an industry leader, the DIY Network recognizes the importance of using sustainable materials and green products. ECO(TM) by Cosentino offers a wide array of designer colors that beautifully compliment the natural mountain cabin aesthetic of this project while protecting the environment," said Lorenzo Marquez, VP of Marketing, Cosentino North America. "In addition, ECO(TM) by Cosentino perfectly fits the audience of this project and the DIY network, since it is widely available and affordable at a price point comparable to other surfacing materials and natural stone," he added.

The 2009 DIY Network Blog Cabin will be open for tours from September 1 through November 1 (Thursday - Sunday, 10AM - 4PM). All proceeds from the ticket sales will help benefit nine local charities. Viewers can logon to www.diynetwork.com for a chance to win the cabin in the Blog Cabin Sweepstakes.
