Vibe Records, Inc. Discusses Current Market Conditions and Differentiates Itself from Vibe Magazine
WESTBURY, N.Y., July 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Vibe magazine, which is in no way affiliated with Vibe Records, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: VBRE) , has joined a growing list of publications that failed to progress with the changing face of media and found itself closing its doors. The monthly magazine, which was founded in 1993 by Mr. Quincy Jones, suffered a dramatic fall in sales in recent months and its editor Danyel Smith declared it was set to fold on Wednesday, July 1st, 2009 with the final issue dedicated to the late Michael Jackson, which was a second blow to Mr. Jones as reported to Ebony/Jet.com. Mr. Jones was not only the legendary music producer of the late mega-superstar, Michael Jackson but also the founder of Vibe Magazine.
If media mogul Quincy Jones had his way, VIBE-- the music magazine he co-founded with Time Warner Inc. nearly 16 years ago and sold to Wicks Group of Companies, LLC in 2006 -- would be brought back to life as an online publication. Quincy Jones sees a market for the magazine, especially in an online format, since Vibe magazine CEO Steve Aaron said the Web site was profitable as reported by Ebony/Jet.com.
Jones told Ebony/Jet.com that he's already begun discussions to buy back the recently defunct magazine. "They [Wicks Group] just messed my magazine all up, but I'm gonna get it back. You better believe it, I'm 'a take it online because print and all that stuff is over," Mr. Jones told EbonyJet.com. "We gotta get into the 21st century."
The value of the Vibe brand cannot be overstated due to its highly recognizable name in the music community, its street credibility and the massive amount of capital, well over the 100 million dollar mark, which was poured into its advertising / branding model. The future of digital is not necessarily online and ad-supported, but in the ability of brands to seamlessly move their content and products through any number of future digital platforms paid for directly by consumers.
"I am of the opinion," states Mr. Tim Olphie, President & CEO of Vibe Records, "that with the Lightyear Entertainment/Carolline worldwide distribution deal with EMI Records, our own digital distribution matrix, strategic alliances with a CD manufacturer, a T-Shirt Manufacturer (Merch Direct), a printing and mailing facility (Arista Printing) and the same text packaging for tickets company utilized by the Jonas Brothers, Paul McCartney, and Mariah Carey (NeverSoldOut.com), we are headed in the right direction."
"Even at a time when it seems like the music industry is winding down, we are gearing up for the distribution of the digital media content that Vibe Records, Inc. has held via our company's valuable intellectual property rights since its inception. I am of the belief, after the dust settles that hopefully the (2) companies can finally come to a meeting of the minds and assist Jones and Vibe.com with the necessary financial assistance they may need thru the public Company, VBRE. I see nothing but a great opportunity for both parties to finally reap its well deserved rewards," states Tim Olphie.
