Bob Thiele, Jr. Nominated for Primetime Emmy(R) for Sons Of Anarchy Theme Music
Accomplished producer, songwriter and musician recognized for musical contribution in pilot episode of FX drama series
LOS ANGELES, July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Acclaimed producer, songwriter and musician Bob Thiele, Jr. has been nominated for a 2009 Primetime Emmy for the music featured in the pilot episode of FX Network's Sons of Anarchy, a Generation-spanning drama about an outlaw motorcycle club. Thiele is being recognized in the "Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music" category for music and lyrics for the original main theme and end credit theme song "This Life" along with Dave Kushner (Music by), Curtis Stigers (Lyrics by) and the Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter (Lyrics by).
Music industry veteran Bob Thiele, Jr. is the music supervisor with Michelle Silverman for Sons of Anarchy and is the person responsible for the show's distinctive sonic signature. Under his direction, the show's soundtrack has become a powerful and integral part of the series. Thiele works with many independent artists and bands he discovers to create a sound that is both authentic and raw. Expanding the conventional definition of a music supervisor, he uses both existing tracks and newly recorded versions of well-known songs. In addition to recording and sourcing the music, Thiele composes original instrumental tracks for Sons of Anarchy.
"The music featured is thematically very important to the show," says Thiele. "I approach all the music with a specific identity in mind, the same way a label might develop its artist roster. It has been so gratifying to find new, independent artists and use their music or pair them with the right songs to create a signature sound for the show. I am honored to receive this nomination from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences."
Music featured on the show has generated tremendous attention online for artists such as The Lions, Audra Mae, Pearlene and Tara Holloway. The soundtrack is virally active and has created a unique community of fans online who are eager to learn more about the artists and bands. Fans can learn about each episode's music on the official Sons of Anarchy website which lists the songs and artists featured along with audio clips. Sons of Anarchy returns to FX for Season Two beginning on Tuesday, September 8th.
