This season-finale event is presented in The Stephen Wise Free Synagogue at 2 p.m. on June 7, 2009, and features a free pre-concert talk with honoree Wyner at 1:15 p.m.

NEW YORK, June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York Virtuoso Singers, under the baton of Conductor and Artistic Director Harold Rosenbaum, present an 80th birthday tribute to Yehudi Wyner - a one-of-a-kind performance featuring all of the Pulitzer Prize-winner's choral works - at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2009, in The Stephen Wise Free Synagogue.

Renowned for his choral compositions including sacred settings "Friday Evening Service" and "Torah Service," Wyner's catalog of modern American works has drawn countless awards, accolades and honors both nationally and abroad. This performance of his choral works is The New York Virtuoso Singers' 2008-2009 Season Finale, and will feature guest cantors Joshua Breitzer and Daniel Singer.

"Yehudi Wyner's works marry the traditional themes of liturgical music with the height of 20th century composition in a way that expresses just how beautiful and powerful new music can be," Rosenbaum said. "I can't imagine a better note on which to end our season than performing Wyner's works for all to experience and enjoy."

Wyner, who will be in attendance at the June 7 tribute, will join conductor Rosenbaum at 1:15 p.m. for a free pre-concert talk with the audience about his life and works.
