Sony Pictures' Angels & Demons Lured by Lenticular

FRESNO, Calif., May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- A blockbuster film franchise steeped in secrets and ancient intrigue comes to life in a dramatic poster and lobby display promotion by Big3D.com (http://www.big3d.com/), the world leader in 3D lenticular printing.

Two different 3D posters were produced to promote the Ron Howard-directed film. Over 600 backlit 27"x40" 3D posters and over 500 48"x72" animated 3D lobby displays were distributed to theaters across the country.

The large lobby display is a 3D image of a stone gargoyle, half-angel, half-demon, glaring menacingly against a dark gloomy sky, seemingly reaching out to passersby. The theater poster is 3D and animated -- as you move past the poster, the image of the gargoyle changes from good to evil, highlighting the plot of the film.

Due to the very high interest in these posters, each one contained a unique serial number embedded into the image, allowing the studio to identify the location of each one.

To further expand the reach of this unique promotion, a second printing of the large lobby display size was ordered by Sony for installation in 50 Sony retail stores.

Lenticular printing is a special print process whereby depth is added to printed images. A lenticular image has two components: the plastic lens, and a specially processed printed image. When the components are put together properly, the desired effect can be seen. Lenticular visual effects include 3D depth, flip, animation, morph, or a combination of any of the effects.

Project management and initial artwork development was done by Drissi Creative Services of Hollywood. Big3D was retained to do the 3D and animation lenticular effects processing and the lenticular printing.
