Campaign Precedes Festivities for the 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall
BERLIN, April 3/PRNewswire/ --
- Symbolic "Bricks to Berlin" Art Exhibit Continues on With 'be Berlin' Tour
Following three exclusive days of cultural events in New York City, the city of Berlin announced today plans to next bring its international campaign themed "be Berlin" to Istanbul (June), Copenhagen (fall) and other cities. From March 31 through April 2, Berlin Partner GmbH, the marketing organization for Germany's capital city, presented the "Berlin Days in New York City" celebrating Berlin's cultural vitality and illustrating that Berlin is "the place to be". The three eventful days featured Berlin's top fashion designers, filmmakers, musicians and artists and drew scores of industry professionals, media and guests to The New Museum.
The centerpiece of the globe-trotting "be Berlin" campaign, which spotlights topics related to art, culture, science, business and urban life, is a one-of-a-kind art exhibit called "Bricks to Berlin." The exhibit features oversized Styrofoam "bricks" that were first signed and decorated by New Yorkers at The New Museum and will now continue to Istanbul. A special brick designed by artist Peter Max in New York, who was selected to design a portion of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago, will remain integrated in the global tour. Photos of the New York City "Bricks to Berlin" can be viewed at http://www.be.berlin.de/newyork, where the public can also submit virtual messages.
Ultimately, more than 1,000 bricks with messages and artwork from around the world will be assembled at Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to recreate the historic Berlin Wall. The bricks will then symbolically be torn down in a one-of-a-kind reenactment resembling a huge domino-effect at the center of planned ceremonies on November 9, 2009 to observe the fall of the Berlin Wall. The "Bricks to Berlin" will also be commemorated in an upcoming photo book.
