Profile America -- Friday, March 6th. Twenty-five years ago this week, the first group of stars was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame. The awards are given periodically to those who during their careers have made outstanding achievements and contributions to the television industry. The first group of inductees included comedians Lucille Ball and Milton Berle, writer Paddy Chayefsky, producer Norman Lear, pioneer newsman Edward R. Murrow, and network executives William Paley and David Sarnoff. When that first set of awards was made, there were more than 1,100 television stations across the country. That figure is now nearing 1,800. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau online at www.census.gov.
