First on Mars Launches V2 at MIPTV, Cannes, France
New Social Web Features Include Feeds, Profiles and TV Show "Walls"
SAN FRANCISCO and CANNES, France, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- First on Mars, a personalized guide to network TV on the web, announced today the launch of First on Mars V2. First on Mars V2 is a major product update that integrates popular social web features including feeds, profiles and TV show "walls." V2 also includes a significant refresh of the overall FOM design.
The newly added First on Mars feeds provide users with real time updates on activity related to their favorite shows, networks, TV moods and other First on Mars TV fans. Profiles include graphical representations of the shows, networks, TV moods and TV fans the user has chosen to follow as well as a clickable history of the user's activity on FOM. TV show "walls" are pages where TV fans can post comments, reviews, links, photos and quizzes related to a show or episode.
"The combination of our existing personalized guide with our extensive new social web features makes FOM among the most powerful ways to experience online television," said First on Mars Founder and CEO Tuhin Roy. "We are particularly excited that our new social features enable TV fans to interact and share with one another while they watch their favorite shows," added Roy.
First on Mars is the first Internet application to apply successful personalization models to Internet TV. First on Mars enables users to build a personal guide to network TV by adding shows, networks and TV moods to their favorites. Each user's guide is dynamically programmed based on these preferences.
Mr. Roy will participate in a round table discussion with press today, March 31, 2009, at 3:00pm CEST in the MIPTV Press Center on "Navigating a Minefield: TV Networks and the Transition from Cable, Satellite and Broadcast to Ad-Supported Streaming on the Web." In addition, First on Mars is co-sponsoring and conducting a demonstration of V2 at the MIPTV Digital Creative Party to be held at the Carlton Hotel from 7:30-11:00pm tonight. The Digital Creative Party is an invitation only event for 200 digital television stakeholders.
First on Mars launched its personal guide to network TV in December 2008 and a set of upgraded features in January 2009. The service is free to consumers. The company filed a patent application covering its proprietary guide personalization technology in September 2008.
