Petrenko Begins Complete Shostakovich Cycle on Naxos
LONDON, February 13/PRNewswire/ -- On the 2 March 2009, Naxos is delighted to announce the release of the first disc in the eagerly anticipated cycle of Shostakovich's complete symphonies from Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
The disc features Symphony No. 11 The Year 1905 and with its driven tempi and breath-taking playing, this release is sure to secure both the orchestra's and Petrenko's dazzling reputations.
Born in St Petersburg in 1976, Petrenko is recognised as one of the exceptional musicians of his generation. Petrenko became resident conductor at St Petersburg Opera and Ballet Theatre in 1994 at the age of eighteen, and he has since gone on to work with some of the world's finest orchestras, earning international acclaim for his award-winning and inspirational performances.
Petrenko made his Liverpool debut with the RLPO in November 2004 and was appointed Principal Conductor of the Philharmonic in September 2006. Just six months into his first season this contract was extended till 2012.
