Kells Announces Signing of Everclear for 2009 Irish Festival Concert
Famed Rockers Will Appear Sunday, March 15
PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Multi-platinum rockers Everclear will perform a special Sunday, March 15 concert during the 2009 Kells Irish Festival, according to Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub co-owners Gerard and Lucille McAleese.
"We feel very fortunate to have a great band like Everclear headline this year's festival," Lucille McAleese said. "The fact that Everclear's singer, guitarist and songwriter Art Alexakis lives in Portland will help draw a big, local crowd as well as fans from around the region."
The concert is part of the five-day Kells 2009 Irish Festival, one of the largest in the Northwest. The family tent will close at 5:30 p.m. to prepare for the concert and will re-open at 7 p.m. A cover of $20 will be charged for the concert.
Everclear has sold millions of albums, been nominated for a Grammy and won numerous awards, including the 1998 Billboard "Modern Rock Artist of the Year" for Alexakis.
The band's hits include "Santa Monica," "Everything to Everyone," "I Will Buy You a New Life," "Father of Mine," and "Wonderful." 1997s "So Much for the Afterglow" went double platinum both in the U.S. and Canada and platinum in New Zealand and Australia. The best of the band's recordings can be found on the 2008 collection "The Vegas Years," (Capitol/EM), marking Everclear's 15th year as recording artists. This CD features 14 covers the band recorded between 1994 and 2008, including versions of the Go-Go's "Our Lips are Sealed," Hall & Oates' "Rich Girl," and Paul Revere & The Raiders "Kicks."
Los Angeles Times writer Richard Cromelin noted that "Alexakis makes it all vivid through accumulation of detail and he spits it out with a Lennon- like candor and unruly, unstoppable energy."
Kells is located at 112 S.W. Second Ave., in downtown Portland. For a more details about Kells Irish Festival, visit www.kellsirish.com.
