KDKA and Dollar Energy Fund's First Ever 'Warmathon' Raises $250,000.00

Pittsburghers Help Hundreds of Their Low-Income Neighbors Stay Warm

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The first ever NewsRadio 1020 KDKA Warmathon to benefit Dollar Energy Fund raised funds to help over 700 Pittsburgh area families maintain basic utility service. The Warmathon, a 30-hour live broadcast from the PPG Wintergarden, took place on February 12-13, 2009.

"The Pittsburgh community is always incredibly generous," said Cindy Datig, chief executive officer of Dollar Energy Fund. "For 25 years, Dollar Energy Fund has worked from the premise of neighbors helping neighbors. Because of the generosity of our neighbors during the Warmathon, Dollar Energy Fund will be able to provide more assistance to make sure no families have to face a Pittsburgh winter without utility service."

Sponsors of the Warmathon, including Allegheny Power, Dominion Peoples, Duquesne Light, Equitable Gas, Ohio Valley General Hospital, and Integrated Staffing Group, stepped up to the plate to make the event a success. Hundreds of volunteers staffed the phone bank and 'Pedaled for Power' - keeping a bulb powered by a stationary bike for 31 hours!

Donations to the Warmathon can still be made. To donate, mail a check to P.O. Box WARM, Pittsburgh, PA 15230 or visit www.Warmathon.com. Online auction items are also available for bid at www.Warmathon.com until Monday, February 16th.

Dollar Energy Fund, Inc. is a non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. Funding generated by the Warmathon will be matched dollar for dollar by partnering utility companies and will stay in the Pittsburgh area. Find full details about the Warmathon event at www.Warmathon.com.

Since 1983, Dollar Energy Fund has helped low-income families and senior citizens on fixed incomes maintain or restore utility service through smart, efficient programs including emergency assistance, payment counseling and weatherization. The first ever NewsRadio 1020 KDKA Warmathon to benefit Dollar Energy Fund raised funds to support the organization's Hardship Program, a utility assistance program that provides grants to low-income households.
