Optimum Lightpath Receives Frost & Sullivan Award for North American Business Communication Services Product of the Year

Prestigious Recognition Commends Excellence in New Product Development for Lightpath Managed Video Service

JERICHO, N.Y., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Optimum Lightpath(SM) today announced that it has been awarded the 2009 Frost & Sullivan North American Business Communication Services Product of the Year Award for its Lightpath Managed Video service. Lightpath Managed Video service, introduced to the market in August 2008, is a complete video service that provides connectivity as well as encoding and decoding of digital video.

The Frost & Sullivan Award for Product of the Year is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new product development and launch within its industry. The recipient company has shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies. This award follows Optimum Lightpath's receipt of the 2008 Frost & Sullivan North American Ethernet Service Emerging Company of the Year.

Lightpath Managed Video service electronically accepts, transports and delivers native compressed and uncompressed digital video in common industry formats including Asynchronous Serial Interface (ASI), Standard Definition Serial Digital Interface (SD-SDI) and High Definition Serial Digital Interface (HD-SDI).

"Frost & Sullivan's research indicates that the emergence of Ethernet promises new opportunities for fiber-based transport service providers, enabling them to challenge the monopoly of satellite operators for video distribution," said Roopashree Honnachari, Senior Industry Analyst with Frost & Sullivan.

"Optimum Lightpath is the first service provider to have launched broadcast video transport services over Ethernet," Ms. Honnachari continued. "As Ethernet establishes itself as a reliable and cost-effective WAN transport technology, Frost & Sullivan expects all leading service providers to standardize their video transport offerings using Ethernet. Frost & Sullivan, through this award, recognizes Optimum Lightpath's foresight to perceive the market potential for fiber-based video transport services and its successful launch of the product in such a short span of time."

"Optimum Lightpath is delighted to have received this latest industry recognition, which is a testament to our success in delivering unsurpassed business technologies and services to the most demanding customers in the largest business market in North America," said Dave Pistacchio, Executive Vice president and General Manager of Optimum Lightpath. "Our Lightpath Managed Video service meets a distinct need in the marketplace by offering a true alternative to traditional video services and a more flexible alternative to satellite. Additionally, we are able to leverage our state-of-the-art fiber optic network to offer our customers superior resiliency and simplicity."

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
