Live Unseen Footage of Obama's Inauguration 'Purple Ticket' Tunnel Disaster
Recording Artist, Reality TV. Star, Norwood Young Captures Surprising Reactions and Entertains While Detained
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- On January, 20, 2009, President Barack Obama's inauguration day, ten of thousands of excited ticket holders were stuck in the 3rd street tunnel in excess of four hours (beginning at 6:30 am) in below freezing temperatures due to inauguration coordination mishaps. "The sheer congestion of people ultimately could have caused chaos and panic, but the obvious enthusiasm for change, tempered the atmosphere" said Norwood Young. Norwood Young, recording artist, and star of "E" television's "High Maintenance 90210" captured this unprecedented, outrageous, harrowing event with his professional camera personnel. Mr. Young, a Los Angeles resident, was taping his inaugural experience for his new reality show, "King of Hancock Park."
The throng of purple ticket holders which included political figures and celebrities, moved very slowly, approximately 30 feet every half hour on their 2 1/2 mile journey. This unique video illustrates the gravity of this situation; the numbers of trapped people, the pace of progression and sound of the people, pressed like sardines chanting "fired up and ready to go" and "yes we can". The footage gives a sense of unity amongst strangers and how people kept their moral uplifted. "In times of fear or anxiety, I sing because it calms my mind and spirit. The song "God Bless America" came to mind, so right then and there, I felt compelled to sing," says Norwood.
When the people exited the tunnel, they still were unable to the gain to attain access to the inauguration, preventing them from witnessing this historical event. "Although I was quite disappointed, with my "tunnel tragedy," the proverbial light at the end of that tunnel is that Barack Obama is President of the Unites States of America, and in that light there is no disappointment," states Norwood Young.
