Free The Bowl(TM) From Beer Ads Video Contest Winners to be Announced During Super Bowl Half-Time Show

Free The Bowl(TM) From Beer Ads Video Contest Winners to be Announced During Super Bowl Half-Time Show

Marin Institute, the alcohol Industry watchdog, will announce the three winners of the country's first anti-Super-Bowl-beer-ad video contest for youth during the Super Bowl half-time show this Sunday, February 1, 2009.

What: Awards announcement and online screening of the winning anti-beer ads

When: Sunday, February 1, 2009 during the scheduled half-time show of the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida

Where: www.freethebowl.com and www.marininstitute.org Who: Three young filmmakers.

Why: Their 30-60 second anti-beer ads have been chosen the best from the 61 entries received from youth aged 13-20 from 23 different states.

Because:

-- Estimates indicate that during the 2008 Super Bowl as many as 30 million underage youth viewed beer ads -- more than for any other product during the event; millions more went online to see the commercials after the big game.

-- Teens who begin drinking before 15 are four times more likely to develop alcohol dependence than those who wait until they are 21.

-- The more alcohol ads kids see, the more likely they are to drink, to drink more often, and drink to excess.

-- Annually, 10.7 million underage youth drink, 7.2 million binge drink and underage drinking costs the country 60 billion dollars.
