New Four-Year Study Set for Dec. 3rd Release Shows Three Times as Many K-3rd Graders Receiving Music and Drama-Based Instruction Read at Grade Level
CHICAGO, Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Reading In Motion (RIM) will release on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 11:00 A.M. a study titled "Using Music- and Drama-based Instruction to Teach Students to Read: An Evaluation of Reading In Motion's Grade K-3 Program 2004-2008." This four-year study shows 60 percent of third graders in RIM schools were reading at the third grade level versus 19 percent of children in closely-matched Chicago Public Schools.
WHAT: A news conference to release the four-year study on improving reading with elementary children by the time of the crucial third grade. WHEN: Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 11:00 A.M. WHERE: Reading In Motion, 65 E. Wacker Place, Suite 1800, Chicago WHO: Karl Androes, RIM Executive Director will discuss the basis for the study.
Dale Rose, Ph.D. is the principle researcher at the Berkeley, California based 3-D Group, who conducted the study. Dr. Rose will describe the study and significance of the findings.
Erick Pruitt, principal of Luke O'Toole Elementary School during the four-year study, address, will speak to the impact the RIM program has had on reading scores in this grade school at 6550 South Seeley Avenue in Englewood.
Avo Randruut the principal artist for Reading In Motion for the study will demonstrate with several now-fourth graders, who were participants in the four-year study.

There will be an opportunity for still and television shots during the news conference. Children from O'Toole School will provide a demonstration of the RIM reading program, including singing songs and reading drama scripts.

Reading In Motion, a non-profit, was formed 25 years ago to teach reading through music and drama. RIM now trains teachers to use the program in Chicago Public Schools. RIM has regular studies conducted of its programs to evaluate the effectiveness of improving K through third graders' ability to read.
