Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center Sponsors College Battle of the Bands

Deadline for Entries on October 10th

MIDLAND, Pa., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center (http://www.lppac.org/) and the National Network of Digital Schools (http://nndsonline.org/) are sponsoring a Battle of the Bands presented by WQED Pittsburgh and The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus.

The "battle" is open to all full-time college student bands in WQED's viewing area of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and West Virginia. Rules and entry forms may be obtained by going to http://www.wqed.org/education/jletb. Entries must be submitted to WQED on CD by midnight on October 10.

The five finalists chosen by area musicians and professionals will be announced LIVE on October 16 at 7:30 p.m. on WQED-TV's OnQ program and invited to compete for the second annual title on Sunday, November 2 at 3 p.m. at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland, Beaver County.

"We are very excited for this event and look forward to bringing together a strong group of young musicians," said Stephen Catanzarite, Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center's Managing Director.

The winner will receive prizes from the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus and its sponsors including a professionally recorded music video and 1,000 CD copies of one original track.

Last year's Battle presented by WQED and the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus was held at WQED's Fred Rogers Studio in Oakland. Cellofourte, a rock-crossover quartet of cellists were named last year's winner against bands from Duquesne University, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.

The Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center is located 50 minutes northwest of Pittsburgh in Midland, Beaver County. A new $30 million facility, it hosts the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, a Pennsylvania public charter school providing professional training in music, theater, dance, creative writing and media arts, along with a rigorous academic program, and is also home to the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School and the Henry Mancini Arts Academy.
