LOS ANGELES, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadband television network KoldCast TV announced today that it has launched a new "Branded" channel dedicated to video programming about books and authors of The Doubleday Publishing Group, a division of Random House, Inc. The Doubleday Publishing Group's new brand channel joins KoldCast's growing lineup of brand marketers creating video content for broadband distribution.

Available on-demand, at launch, with over 60 individual video book trailers and author interviews, The Doubleday Publishing Group's new brand channel appears within KoldCast TV's "Branded" micro network. The programming is also cross-pollinated into the company's new micro network, the "Book Theater," where related programming is aggregated and organized by genre and author.

"Original video programming on the internet is increasingly being used by major brands as an effective means of reaching consumers," says David S. Samuels, president and CEO of KoldCast TV. "The beauty of video, when properly executed, is that it can become a bona fide form of entertainment that is welcomed and appreciated by viewers."

Individual authors, too, are now producing their own video book trailers. Steven Pressfield, author of numerous military history novels for Doubleday including "Gates of Fire," "The Virtues of War," and "The Afghan Campaign," produced a 10-minute trailer, a nearly 3-minute trailer and a 30-second teaser video for his most recent book, "Killing Rommel," all of which appear on The Doubleday Publishing Group's channel.

Said Pressfield: "I produced the 'Killing Rommel' videos with an eye towards providing prospective readers with a visual introduction to my book rather than a textual one, recognizing that our world is rapidly becoming video-centric. As it happens, my 10-minute video has been most effective, yielding a movie sale to Jerry Bruckheimer/Disney, which I will be co-writing with Randall Wallace, the screenwriter of 'Braveheart'."

Sonia Nash, online marketing manager at The Doubleday Publishing Group, said: "Video book trailers and author interviews allow authors to speak directly to readers and provide context to their work. We are excited to work with KoldCast TV and to share our entertaining programming with a larger audience."

KoldCast TV Viewers may purchase books featured on the channel immediately after watching a video, via a direct link to a major online bookseller. KoldCast is currently in discussion with several other book publishers who will soon be launching their own Branded channels on KoldCast TV.

"As a reader, I have long believed that books stand as one of the very best forms of entertainment," said Samuels. "Now, the visual imagery I usually create in my mind while reading can be more accurately set in advance by the very authors and publishers who are creating this incredibly exciting new form of entertainment. I believe this trend is not only here to stay, but set to explode."
