Creation to Perform at Park Dedication for Mattie J.T. Stepanek in Rockville, Maryland Saturday, October 18th
Band Performing Benefit Concert at BB Kings, NYC Oct. 13
NEW YORK, Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Creation, the teen band whose mission is "to make a difference in the lives of children who are less fortunate while spreading the message of peace," will be performing at the historic dedication ceremony of Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park in Rockville, Maryland. The park will be honoring the legacy of young peacemaker, Mattie J.T. Stepanek, a 13-year old poet who coined the phrase, "Peace is Possible." Mattie's inspirational writings - including the book Just Peace: A Message of Hope, written with President Jimmy Carter - were carried internationally with the help of his mentors, public and media figures including Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Maya Angelou and Larry King, who gave him a wide platform to share his message. Mattie died in 2004 of muscular dystrophy, but his visionary leadership inspired a global "peace buzz."
Preceding the park dedication, Creation will be performing on Columbus Day at B.B. King's Club in New York City, Monday Night, October 13. This is the bands second appearance at B.B. King's, and all gross proceeds will be going directly to the Mattie J.T Stepanek Foundation
Creation, featuring tenth graders Raechel (lead vocals/guitar), Josh (guitar, vocals), Sam (drums/percussion), Derek (bass/vocals) and Tory (guitar/vocals), was formed four years ago to rock out their messages of diversity, multiculturalism and peace with a fan base that includes former president Bill Clinton, legendary saxophonist Clarence Clemons and songwriter/producer Nile Rodgers.
Since its inception the band has supported the We Are Family Foundation - a charity organization dedicated to promoting diversity, understanding, respect and the vision of a global family - by donating 100% of the gross proceeds from the sale of their debut CD, World Without Windows to We Are Family Foundation programs. Through the WAFF and Building with Books Creation raised enough money in their first year together to fund the building of the Creation School in Kegnerela Village in Mali, Africa.
In 2005 The We Are Family Foundation honored Creation with their first Special Recognition Award, presented by Steven Van Zandt, at their Fourth Annual Benefit Gala, along with honorees Sir Elton John, Quincy Jones, Tommy Hilfiger and Comcast.
In 2006, Creation made a formal Commitment to the Clinton Global Initiative, to raise funds and awareness for the 2007 Just Peace Summit, held by We Are Family Foundation in New York City. The Just Peace Summit gathered teens from countries around the world who are currently working on projects to make a difference in their own communities. The concept and discussions of the very successful Summit were be based on the best selling book Just Peace, by Stepanek and former President Jimmy Carter.
The band has also shared their music and message with, among others, performances at the United Nations International Day for Peace, The U.S. Doctors for Africa benefits in D.C. and Manhattan, The Indianapolis Children's Museum Power of Children opening event, The Brookdale College Holocaust Remembrance Day and The Richmond Blue Goo Pediatric Cancer Event.
In 2007, Creation partnered with Gibson, YouTube and Billboard for a "Join The Band contest" to promote teen activism worldwide and recruit a new band member. The contest attracted over 500,000 total views on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/CreationBand).
Creation is currently in the studio working on a new album.
