Cojo to Hit the Streets of LA for 2008 Walk for PKD
Fashion correspondent Steven 'Cojo' Cojocaru forms Team Cojo to fight PKD
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Inspired by his own life-saving kidney transplant, fashion critic and Entertainment Tonight correspondent Steven "Cojo" Cojocaru is taking steps to help the 12.5 million people worldwide affected by Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).
PKD is one of the world's most common, life-threatening genetic diseases, affecting more people than Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and sickle cell anemia ... combined. PKD affects 1 in 500 children and adults, including Cojo himself. There is no cure for PKD. But there is hope.
Cojo and his own Team Cojo will take part in the Los Angeles Walk for PKD on Sunday, Nov. 9 at Ocean View Park in Santa Monica. Cojo will help kick off the event. All are invited to go to http://www.teamcojo.org/ to join Team Cojo and walk as part of his team -- or to support his team through a donation.
Registration for the Walk starts at 9 a.m. with the Walk start scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Cojo will be available at the event and in advance for interviews and photo opportunities.
"During my experience, I saw the enormous and heartbreaking difficulties PKD patients face," Cojo said. "The kidney donor shortage is at a crisis level; we need your funds to find a cure, promote living donor programs and continue important research for PKD."
Nationwide, the Walk for PKD takes place in more than 60 cities. This year's goal is to raise more than $3 million for PKD research and patient education. The not-for-profit PKD Foundation leads the fight against PKD through patient education and research funding. For more information, visit http://www.pkdcure.org/ or call 1-800-PKD-CURE.
