AARP, one of the world's largest member organizations with over 39 million members and the leading organization for people 50+, is bringing its 50th Anniversary celebration to Washington D.C. with two monumental events beginning Thursday, September 4, 2008. As part of the festivities, five of the biggest names in sports will be on hand to help celebrate the organization's milestone including Dara Torres, Richard Petty, Martina Navratilova, Magic Johnson and Cal Ripken Jr.

WHAT: AARP's Life@50+ three-day National Event and Expo will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This event is part exhibition floor (nearly 500 booths offering information on products and services catering specifically to the 50+ demographic; part concert series with Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, Chicago, and Paul Simon slated to perform; and part information series with celebrities and experts scheduled to speak on a variety of topics.)

AARP will also host a separate event on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. This celebration will bring together notable speakers, celebrities, performers, AARP members and a general audience to reflect on the accomplishments of the organization's past 50 years and to celebrate America's future. Leeza Gibbons will serve as master of ceremonies, joining Gospel music superstar Patti Austin, among others, in Washington, DC's biggest birthday celebration of the year.
