"RocknRolla" Races to the Top of the UK Box Office

"RocknRolla" Races to the Top of the UK Box Office

LONDON, September 10/PRNewswire/ -- Guy Ritchie's "RocknRolla" made its world debut in the UK this weekend, opening at No. 1 with GBP1,565,439. The film will open in the US in limited release, in LA, NY and Toronto, on 8 October 2008, and wide on 31 October 2008.

Written and directed by Guy Ritchie, "RocknRolla" is a story of sex, thugs and rock 'n roll, starring Gerard Butler, Tom Wilkinson, Thandie Newton, Mark Strong, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Toby Kebbell.

Josh Berger, President and Managing Director of Warner Bros. UK, commented, "We are delighted that 'RocknRolla' has been so well received by British cinema audiences, who love both the film and the great ensemble cast. We think that the great reviews and strong word of mouth will carry the film well into autumn and congratulate Guy Ritchie and his creative team on this success."

The action comedy takes a dangerous ride into high crime and low life in contemporary London, where real estate has supplanted drugs as the biggest market, and criminals are its most enthusiastic entrepreneurs. With millions up for grabs, all of London's criminal underworld conspires, colludes and collides with one another in an effort to take their cut. But as high rollers and petty criminals alike jockey for dominance, the true prize of one multi-million-dollar deal will fall into the hands of a junkie rock star - Lenny's stepson, presumed dead but very much alive.

The film is produced by Joel Silver ("The Matrix," "Lethal Weapon" and "Die Hard" franchises), Susan Downey ("The Brave One"), Steve Clark-Hall ("Revolver") and Guy Ritchie. Steve Richards and Navid McIlhargey are the executive producers.

Joel Silver remarked, "We are so proud of 'RocknRolla' and knew the UK was the right place to open this film. Critics are already calling 'RocknRolla' a return to form for Guy Ritchie, and I couldn't agree more. Now I can't wait to share the film with American audiences, who I truly believe will embrace 'RocknRolla' just as enthusiastically."

A Dark Castle Entertainment production, "RocknRolla" is being distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Launched in 1999, Dark Castle Entertainment was founded to create a unique brand of horror movies inspired by the works of legendary filmmaker William Castle. Recently, Dark Castle entered into an arrangement with CIT Group Inc. to broaden the company into a full genre label encompassing feature films, Home Video and comic books. Under the supervision of producer Joel Silver, Dark Castle's upcoming film roster includes the thriller "Whiteout," starring Kate Beckinsale under the direction of Dominic Sena; "Ninja Assassin," directed by James McTeigue and starring Korean music sensation Rain; the horror thriller "The Orphan," starring Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard; and the psychological thriller "The Factory," starring John Cusack. The company's Home Video titles include "The Hills Run Red," starring Sophie Monk, William Sadler and Tad Hilgenbrink. Upcoming Comic Book projects include "Ferryman," by Marc Andreyko and Jonathan Wayshak.
