IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Two of the hottest Latin bands in southern California, Los Pinguos and Quetzal, will perform at the Orange County Great Park this weekend. Don't know how to mambo? No problem. Come learn with instructors on Friday, September 12th, at 7:30 p.m., to get you dancing along with Los Pinguos beginning at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, September 13th, come hear Quetzal, one of L.A.'s most celebrated Chicano bands. Attendance and parking to both events are free to the public.
According to Music Connection, "Los Pinguos has a catchy and unique style that appeals to more than just a Spanish-speaking audience. While Los Pinguos draw much inspiration from the traditional music of Argentina, they bring many other influences into their music that makes it stand on its own."
Los Pinguos (former Star Search winner) came to the U.S. from cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a mixture of Latin rhythms, performed with Spanish guitars, a Cuban Tres, Peruvian cajon (box-drum) and harmonizing vocals. Vivacious and infectious, the sound of Los Pinguos has claimed fans worldwide, from their hometown to the streets of Los Angeles. Their exciting, passionate live shows garnered a devoted fan base, inspiring the talented ensemble to pursue global attention.
The Los Angeles Times has called Quetzal, "The premiere L.A. Chicano band of its generation."
In 1993 guitarist-composer Quetzal Flores, the son of two community organizers, formed Quetzal with a goal of extending the boundaries of Chicano music. Fifteen years later, Quetzal has become one of Los Angeles' most celebrated Chicano bands. Their mix of Mexican and Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, R&B, and rock is accented by the dynamic vocals of Flores' wife and co-writer, lead vocalist Martha Gonzalez. Acclaimed for the poetic depth of her lyrics, Gonzalez is just one of the participatory writers in the band.
The Orange County Great Park is located on the site for the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Irvine. Visitors to the Park can now enjoy balloon flights, Hangar 244 Cafe', concert and dance programs and picnics in the Preview Park.
When completed, the Orange County Great Park, will be a 1,347 acre metropolitan park. It will provide a wide array of active and passive uses, including a 2.5 mile canyon and lake, miles of walking and biking trails, a cultural terrace, Orange County's largest sports park and a botanical garden.
