Living Legend Judy Collins Headlines Benefit Concert for Joe's Pub - 10th Anniversary Celebration
NEW YORK, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Wildflower Records is proud to announce the release of the long-awaited album, 'Born To The Breed - A Tribute to Judy Collins, Volume I' set for October 14, 2008. 'Born To The Breed' features the original writing and poetry of Judy Collins recorded by luminary artists such as Chrissie Hynde, Joan Baez, Rufus Wainwright, Dolly Parton, Shawn Colvin, Leonard Cohen and more. The album launch will coincide with a benefit tribute concert headlined by Judy Collins that will be the centerpiece of Joe's Pub's 10th Anniversary celebration on October 10th at The Public Theater.
'Born to the Breed - A Tribute to Judy Collins, Vol. I'* will allow fans old and new to explore the hidden treasures of Collins' own songwriting voice. Her impressive career has spanned nearly 50 years thrilling audiences worldwide with her unique blend of interpretative folksongs and contemporary themes. Volume II -- set to be released in June 2009 will be in conjunction with a concert at Red Rocks and a documentary to follow, fall 2009.
The idea for this all-star tribute album came from a casual compliment Judy received from another iconic female singer. Judy recalled, "It started because Chrissie Hynde said to me, 'You know, one of my top 10 favorite songs is My Father.'" Collins continued that when she saw the list of people who signed on to pay her tribute she was more than a little flattered stating, "The list of performers -- I'm just blown away by it."
The release of 'Born To The Breed' will be launched during the 10th Anniversary celebration of Joe's Pub, New York's most influential music venue, with a benefit performance on 10/10 paying tribute to Judy Collins -- legendary singer-songwriter, champion of up-and-coming artists, and New Yorker. Collins will highlight her history with Joseph Papp (in 1969 she appeared in 'Peer Gynt' with Stacy Keach on the stage of the Delacorte Theater in Central Park) by bringing many friends. Judy will be joined by Rufus Wainwright, Shawn Colvin, and Jimmy Webb along with Wildflower Records' artists Amy Speace, Kenny White and Ali Eskandarian, to name just a few.
This event -- produced by Katherine DePaul (President, Wildflower Records) and Joe's Pub -- will be hosted by legendary WFUV DJ, Pete Fornatale and held at The Public Theater. The spirit of this benefit mirrors the philosophies of Wildflower Records' and Joe's Pub's mission statements of an 'eclectic artist-driven record label' and a music venue with a 'genre-blind booking policy' respectively.
