Competition Among Aspiring Filmmakers Makes REGZA(R) Brand the Star in its Own Movie
WAYNE, N.J., June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Consumer Products, L.L.C. ("Toshiba") and the New York Film Academy (NYFA) today announced the winner of "The One to Watch" film competition -- Eddie Mariano, a NYFA alum from Los Angeles, California. As the winner of the competition, Mariano will be awarded a one-year tuition scholarship to NYFA programs courtesy of Toshiba. The competition invited the over 40,000 students and alumni of the NYFA to build on Toshiba's popular "The One to Watch" REGZA brand campaign and submit a short film that highlights Toshiba's line of LCD TVs. Toshiba challenged budding filmmakers to use their filmmaking skills to tell a complete story about REGZA in just 29 seconds and demonstrate why REGZA is the "The One to Watch."
"It's truly exciting to work with NYFA, a world class film academy. We're two organizations dedicated to innovation and creative thinking," said Maria Repole, Assistant Vice President of Corporate Communications at Toshiba. "With the growth of HDTV LCD sales, this is a great opportunity to build awareness of the Toshiba REGZA brand within the film community."
About the Winner
Born and raised in Miami, Mr. Mariano moved to the Los Angeles area, where he currently resides, to pursue his love for filmmaking. He was a student at the New York Film Academy's L.A. campus graduating in March of 2007 from the one year filmmaking program. As a very "hands-on" individual who thrives on the long hours and intensity of directing and screen writing, his love for filmmaking drives his passion in the industry.
About the Competition
The winner was determined by a panel of judges based on creativity of the video, use of humor, originality and relevance to the contest theme -- "The One to Watch." The judging panel was made up by Scott Ramirez, VP of TV Marketing for Toshiba, Jason Gastman of Toshiba, David Klein, Senior Director of the New York Film Academy and Michael Young, Provost of NYFA.
"Our students and faculty are thrilled for this opportunity to work with the Toshiba brand," said Jerry Sherlock, President and Founder of the NYFA. "At the NYFA, we're devoted to providing the most focused filmmaking, acting and animation instruction in the world, so it is exciting for students and alumni to apply what they have learned with our film school's intensive hands-on programs and use their creative skills to the fullest extent possible."
