GATES MILLS, Ohio, June 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hawken School's Academic Challenge team recently won $10,000 and the season championship against Magnificat and Highland Hills on WEWS Channel's 5 longtime trivia program for high school students.
The team -- juniors Samuel Milner, team captain, of Highland Heights; John Borokhovich, of Shaker Heights; Alec Lai, of Solon; and alternate sophomore T.J. Callahan, of Bentleyville -- was among 78 area high school teams competing for a total of $34,000 in prize money donated by Westfield Insurance, the show's sponsor, and qualified for the championship by ending its regular season match with one of the top three scores this season.
The recent win capped an already great season for the Academic Challenge Team, coached by Upper School math teacher Stan Perry. Among the team's honors this year were a first place division finish at the Bulldog Invitational Academic Challenge Tournament in January, first place division finish at the Solon National Academic Quiz Tournament in February, and qualifying for the Ohio Academic Challenge Regionals in May.
