Belo's WFAA-TV Presented George Foster Peabody Award

Belo's WFAA-TV Presented George Foster Peabody Award

DALLAS, June 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Belo Corp. (NYSE:BLC) announced today that WFAA-TV, the Company's ABC television station in Dallas/Fort Worth, was presented last evening with a prestigious 2007 George Foster Peabody Award at the 67th annual ceremony held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. The award was given to the News 8 Investigates team for four separate stories produced in 2007: "Money for Nothing," "Kinder Prison," "Television Justice" and "The Buried and the Dead." The Henry Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia presents the George Foster Peabody Awards each year, which are the oldest awards in broadcasting and are considered among the most prestigious and selective prizes in electronic media.

"Typically, news organizations are honored with Peabody Awards for single stories. The fact that this award represents a body of work produced by the WFAA News 8 Investigates team makes the recognition particularly outstanding," said Dunia Shive, Belo's president and Chief Executive Officer. "Investigative journalism continues to be an important part of the service we provide to the local communities in which Belo operates. We are honored to be recognized again with such an important award."

This Peabody marks the sixth time WFAA has been recognized with such an award, and the third time in the past five years. This year's winners, who are all multiple Peabody honorees, include executive news director Michael Valentine, reporters Brett Shipp and Byron Harris, producer Mark Smith and photographer-editor Kraig Kirchem.
