Honda's Humanoid Robot Conducts DSO and Visits Students To Raise Funds for Music Education in Detroit WHAT: Few aspiring conductors can claim the world-class Detroit Symphony Orchestra as their first professional gig. However, on Tuesday, May 13 at 8 p.m., technology and classical music come together to raise awareness and funds for music education in Detroit. Honda's humanoid robot ASIMO will conduct the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at Orchestra Hall in a short work called "The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha by Mitch Leigh. Honda is contributing over $1 million to the DSO to establish The Power of Dreams Music Education Fund, which will provide music education, including beginner string lessons, to underserved Detroit children. The public can make a gift to support this program and register to win a brand new Honda Accord by logging onto www.detroitsymphony.com. ASIMO's debut is part of a sold-out DSO concert featuring cellist Yo-Yo Ma, led by Resident Conductor Thomas Wilkins. Prior to Ma's concerto, Honda, DSO Music Director Designate Leonard Slatkin and ASIMO will present Ma with the DSO's "Changing Lives through Music" Award. MORE: On Wednesday, May 14 at 10:45 a.m., the multi-talented ASIMO will demonstrate its myriad non-conducting skills for hundreds of area music students on the Orchestra Hall stage in a short 10-15 minute demonstration. MEDIA: Media are invited to cover ASIMO's conducting debut, the Award presentation and the first 5-minutes only of Yo-Yo Ma's performance on May 13th. Media are also invited to cover the demonstration by ASIMO on May 14th. Media must R.S.V.P. to receive credentials by Monday, May 12.
