Apocalyptic Road Pic 'The Fall of Night' Flagged Down for U.S. Premiere at Bare Bones Film Festival

Sub-$1MM Thriller Pairing 'Girlfriends' Star Persia White & H'wood Henchman Tony Longo Shiny Model for Oklahoma's Celebrated 9th Anni DIY Filmmaker Event

MUSKOGEE, Okla., April 7, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- "The Fall of Night," first- time feature director Derrick Warfel's ambitious "Twilight Zone"-like offering about a tarnished rock star's horrific, desert run-in with a rogue prophet and his mysterious female sidekick, is all geared up for its U.S. premiere at the 2008 Bare Bones International Independent Film & Music Festival (Apr. 17-27) here, it was observed by Bare Bones directors Oscar Ray and Shiron Butterfly.

Dubbed "'Memento' on double coupons" and heralded by Ray as "a Bare Bones mascot" for delivering "so much production value from so little coin," the Winter Star Prods. time-twisting 86-min. drama/thriller -- starring CW's "Girlfriends" lead Persia White as the driven disciple, Tony Longo ("The Cooler") as her doomsday preacher and Bruce Michael Hall ("One Life to Live") as a marked musician on the lam who hitches a late-night ride from the peculiar couple -- will unfurl Sat. Apr. 26 in the perfect 9:40 p.m. late night niche at the Muskogee Civic Center.

"Fall of Night" will be competing with 40 full-length pictures (149 overall entries), all made for fest's under-$1 million budget requirement, for a dozen awards including Indie Auteur 2008 for the film's writer-director Warfel, Best Drama/Thriller, Feature Screenplay, Cinematography, Actor and Actress.

Oklahoma stand follows the digital film's popularly received world premiere at last fall's Montreal World Film Festival, and precedes its upcoming appearances at the London Independent (special late May showcase) and Central Florida (Aug. 28-31) film festivals.

While here for what founders have called "the friendliest film festival in the world" since its 1999 bow, Warfel -- mentor of the speed filmmaking 168 Hour Film Project in Burbank, CA -- will also teach his "How to Make a Short Film in a Short Time on a Short Budget" seminar (based on his upcoming book) Fri. Apr. 25 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the Roxy Balcony and participate in the "Indie Producers Panel of Speakers" on Sun. Apr. 27 from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Azalea Inn.

The USC film school and Dallas Theological Seminary grad explained he wanted to make "Fall" a "visceral yet thinking person's thriller, in the vein of Rod Serling's great TV series."
