CNBC's Maria Bartiromo on Her Interview With Obama on the Economy

CNBC's Maria Bartiromo on Her Interview With Obama on the Economy

WASHINGTON, March 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was released by the Republican National Committee:

Bartiromo: "[T]he problem is when you look at some of these tax increases, so for one, capital gains tax. Right now the capital gains tax is 15%. He wants to take that up to possibly 28%. He said probably 25% is what he is thinking but he won't take it beyond the 28% rate that was the case under the Clinton Administration." (MSNBC's "MSNBC Live," 3/28/08)

Bartiromo: "That's a big deal. Because you're not just talking about the rich. You're talking about 100 million Americans who own stocks that will get impacted by that capital gains tax increase. Nearly doubling from 15% to close to 30%. That's a main issue." (MSNBC's "MSNBC Live," 3/28/08)

Bartiromo: "You're doing so in a time that the economy is slow. So who is to say that those people are, in fact, going to continue to invest in the stock market, going to continue to spend and perhaps, you know, sell their homes?" (MSNBC's "MSNBC Live," 3/28/08)

Bartiromo: "Another part of his plan that is being questioned is his ideals on trade. He wants to redo some of the trade policies that are already in place. This is important to recognize, because you've got trade going on around the world with the United States and one of the most important parts of the economy today, probably the only vibrant thing that is happening right now in the U.S. economy right now is the fact that exports are so strong." (MSNBC's "MSNBC Live," 3/28/08)

Bartiromo: "We are selling a lot of products to our friends around the world because the dollar is so weak. If you want to renegotiate these trade policies you could impact those relationships and those trade agreements around the world and this, at any time that the only thing we have going for us right now is truly exports and trade." (MSNBC's "MSNBC Live," 3/28/08)
