Profile America -- Wednesday, November 7th. The longest-running show on television is 60 years old this week "Meet the Press." The Sunday morning news program was first moderated by Martha Rountree -- to date, the program's only female host. Lawrence Spivak was associated with the show for 28 years, first as the original producer, then as panel member and moderator. Currently, "Meet the Press" is an hour in length and guests are questioned in depth by its single host, Tim Russert. When "Meet the Press" started in 1947, there were 66 television stations across the U.S. Now, there are nearly 1,400 stations and some 9,000 cable systems.
